This week's episode features Summer Tomato's creator Darya Rose, who also happens to be a neuroscientist, author (see her book below: Foodist), former dieter, and proud foodist. We invited Darya on the show because of her vast knowledge on the nutrition front, as we all know what you put into your body is what you get out of it -- good or bad.
So we chatted with Darya on what foods she eats, along with her other fitness and good health practices. She also provided us with a ton of advice on proper nutrition -- especially for busy professionals constantly on the move. Often it's a challenge with job, family, friends, etc. to maintain a healthy diet for maximum performance, but Darya flips that on its head and says you can do it. It just takes creating good eating habits that become part of your life -- and she tells us just how to that. She also revealed some of the eating and dieting issues she experienced growing up in Southern California -- and how she overcame them. Very transparent and motivating stuff here. Many thanks to Darya for being on the show. Check it out and go get her book!

Today's episode features California Coast Credit Union's President/CEO Todd Lane on how to create a fit culture/workplace with a well-conceived wellness program. Todd, being an avid surfer and runner living in San Diego, wanted his credit union to have a healthy culture because study after study shows the tremendous benefits of an organization that's, well, feeling good: more productive, increased clarity, super creative, less sick days, positive morale, etc.
So Todd has taken this "fitball" and run with it at CalCoast, reaping the benefits of having one of the healthiest staffs this side of the Mississippi -- and probably the other side, too. Todd joins us to discuss his personal fitness practices and all the cool things his $1.9 billion credit union does for its employees to stay fit and succeed to better serve its members. Check it out and let us know what your company is doing in the wellness program department. Enjoy!
Full disclosure here: I am a huge fan of Gini Dietrich's mighty popular and successful Spin Sucks blog. Definitely one of the tops on the planet when it comes to public relations and marketing strategies. And, as you know, reading anybody's blog over a period of time, you get to know the author. Gini's no different, as she reveals a bit of her personal life while providing heaps of professional advice.
One of the items that really interested me is the fact that she's an avid cyclist, riding almost everyday -- and, even more so, how her cycling benefited her career. This daily routine, she says, transfers directly to the success of her PR firm Arment Dietrich, as well as Spin Sucks. Gini has said in past blog posts that her exercising is like breathing. It's just something she does as part of her day now, helping her create new ideas, solve issues, and just plain feel good. Find out how she makes it all work and her sage advice for others on how fitness can help you get a leg up in your career. Enjoy!
I call him San Diego's King of Networking. That would be Mr. David Oates, president and founder of the successful marketing firm Stalwart Communications. David is literally everywhere on the networking circuit in America's Finest City. There has to be three or four of him bouncing around the city at various events drumming up new business for Stalwart. I don't know how he does it, while maintaining his health.
We've all been to corporate networking events and conferences where the food and drink are rich and the hours are long. And it's not long before we find ourselves 20 or 30 pound overweight, dog tired, and making a trip to the doctor because our EKG looks more like the Richter Scale after a 9.0 earthquake. That's no bueno. Naturally, I had to catch up with David at his local gym Fitwall (a client of his) to find out just how he maintains his health with such a hectic lifestyle. In this chat, he shares his take on how he gets it done and why.
How do you run one of the nation's top-rated graphic arts firms, be a top-notch husband and father, and be a top-flight triathlete competing worldwide? I don't know. But I do know one person who pulls it off quite well -- and that's XYZ Co-founder and President Sean McGlynn.
So naturally, I had to have Sean come on the show and provide us with an inside look on how he stays on top of work, family, and fitness -- happily succeeding in all three. We're all busy in just about every area of our lives and Sean puts things in perspective with time management, hard work, and, of course, fun. In addition to working with such elite companies as Acura, Nike, Google, T-Mobile, Toyota, Virgin America, etc. and squeezing in triathlons, Sean also surfs, plays basketball, snowboards, and cycles -- along with coaching his kids' teams and carving out some special time with his wife Shauna. He's one of this planet's truly good dudes, who has some excellent advice on how to juggle a busy home and work life and stay fit and healthy for both to succeed. Enjoy!
Author, entrepreneur, mentor, and family man Eric Wagner joins us on the show to discuss how his fitness routine helped achieve big time success in his career. Eric, founder of Mighty Wise Academy and Forbes contributor, has started and sold numerous companies over the years. But the one thing that has remained a constant in his life has been his fitness -- which kept his body, mind, and soul sharp to succeed.
As previously mentioned, Eric has a business mentorship company called Mighty Wise Academy, where he provides aspiring entrepreneurs with experienced and proven advice on how to start and succeed in their ventures. Part of his teachings touch on being healthy to have the energy to succeed with their plans. He also has a book called Walk Through Fire, a daily devotional loaded with business advice and anecdotes -- and, yes, it's also peppered with fitness tips. Great stuff from Eric. So check it out and learn from the best in this episode. #06: An Entrepreneur's View on Staying Fit with 'Entrepreneur on Fire's' John Lee Dumas...8/15/2015

Enjoy!
No Net Solutions' Andy Janning joins us for this episode of Fitxec, discussing, of all things, burnout in your career. Andy calls it the silent killer of motivation -- of any kind. And, yet, when it comes to corporate America, we treat it like the storyline in the movie Fight Club -- nobody wants to talk about it. Essentially, it's addressing mental health.
Just as much as maintaining your body's fitness is important in boosting your career and life, mental health is on another level of importance. It's where everything begins. It can affect your job, your personal life, your health, and so much more. So what can we do about this issue? Well, Andy gives us his well-researched rundown on burnout, his personal experience with it (his vasectomy story is an instant classic), his remedies to avoid it, and many more nuggets of Grade A advice. To close our talk, Andy touches on an interesting term he learned about called "30-Year Goggles" -- which is simply fascinating and may change the way you look at life from now on. It did for me. So enjoy our chat and let us know your thoughts on burnout and how you handle it.

Former Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter, now Senior Vice President and Chief Lending Officer at UT Federal Credit Union (don't default on your loan unless you want to experience the "pleasantries" of an arm bar), Jonathan Patrick joins us to discuss his former MMA fighting days and how that experience helped him become a success in his multi-faceted career as a financial executive and entrepreneur.
We talk about the three foundations that shape his daily health and fitness routine: exercise, diet, and rest -- as well as how they help him excel in his career. We also touched on if Jonathan has always been a fitness enthusiast. His answer: not always. But he explains how he escaped from his rut to become the success that his is today. Enjoy! |
